Free taxi rides in the Nissan LEAF EV

KUALA LUMPUR: In conjunction with Earth Day on April 22, Edaran Tan Chong Motor Sdn. Bhd. (ETCM) is collaborating with MyTeksi Sdn Bhd (MyTeksi) to demonstrate their commitment to the environment and sustainable transportation.

A fleet of Leafs will be driven around Klang Valley, offering free ‘taxi’ rides to passengers who book their taxis via MyTeksi, Malaysia’s largest on-demand taxi booking network.

This collaboration is part of ETCM’s efforts to help promote and create awareness for electric vehicles as an option for sustainable transportation.

The Leaf is a perfect example of a car that provides driving pleasure while producing zero-emissions.

ETCM executive director Datuk David Chen said the campaign was designed to allow people to experience a 100% electric vehicle and also to address any concerns of an electric vehicle and highlighting the many benefits of electric vehicles.

“With these free taxi rides, we aim to show how practical, affordable and comfortable our Leaf is in addition to contributing to environmental zero-emission cause,” he added.

Free-rides will be given to passengers through two different channels - shuttle service in selected areas and via the MyTeksi Applications on Earth Day.

The Leaf shuttle service will cover popular areas in Subang Jaya and Sunway.

Passengers will need to spot the Leaf at these locations for a free-ride to their desired destination within the shuttle area.

Lucky passengers who were selected through the MyTeksi App bookings will also have the opportunity to get a free-ride in the Leaf around the Klang Valley.

“We are thrilled to be able to give our passengers free-rides on the Leaf. We hope to see more Leafs as an option for taxi service transportation in the near future. The Nissan LEAF provides zero-emission, lower cost to passengers compared to a car that runs on fuel,” said Aaron Gill, Product and Marketing Head of MyTeksi.

ETCM will also launch a Twitter contest called ‘Spot, Tweet and Win’ to spread awareness about the free MyTeksi rides in the Leaf. The contest will run from April 22 to 23 and anyone may participate by following three simple steps to qualify for the contest.

Firstly, customers need to follow @NissanMalaysia on twitter, spot and snap a photo of the Leaf and tweet that photo along with the contest tagline which is “Spot a #LEAF and win from @NissanMalaysia @MyTeksi #EarthDay2013 free ride campaign” to @NissanMalaysia.

Contest entries will be randomly drawn and 20 winners will get an exclusive Leaf miniature.
